Best time to post on TikTok: what 2,369 posts from 52 US brands show
· Nolyn research team
Most “best time to post” charts show when posting is busiest or come from a scheduling tool's customer base, without saying how each account did against its own normal. We took 52 US brand and creator accounts across six niches, read their latest 2,369 TikTok posts and compared each post with that same account's usual post. Below: the answer, the heatmap, results by niche, the method, the limits, and the data to download.
What is the best time to post on TikTok in the US?
For US brand accounts, 9 PM to midnight Eastern (6–9 PM Pacific) is the best window: posts published then got a median 1.27× the account's usual engagement (114 posts from 26 accounts; 90% interval 1.09–2.04×). Sunday is the best day (1.16×) and Friday the weakest (0.91×). The 12–3 PM ET slot, where 37% of brand posts go out, came in slightly below normal (0.95×). Based on 2,369 posts from 52 US accounts, October 2025 to October 2026.
Key findings
- Late evening wins: posts published 9 PM–midnight ET got 1.27× the account's usual engagement, and 15 of the 18 accounts that posted there at least twice beat their own median in that block.
- Early morning looks even better but is rare: 6–9 AM ET scored 1.63× (37 posts, 18 accounts; 7 of 9 accounts above their median). Only 2% of brand posts go out then.
- The busy hours are average: 82% of brand posts are published 9 AM–6 PM ET, and every block in that range sits within about 5% of normal (12–3 PM: 0.95×), though 2 PM on its own was weaker (0.87×).
- Sunday is the best day (1.16×, 21 of 34 accounts above their median) even though brands post least on weekends (14% of posts).
- Friday is the weakest day: 0.91× (90% interval 0.84–0.97×), and only 20 of 51 accounts did better than usual on Fridays.
- No slot doubles your results. Outside the quiet hours, the differences are 5–15%, much smaller than the gap between a typical post and a good one.
TikTok engagement by time of day (Eastern time)
The table shows each 3-hour block in Eastern time, the same moment in Pacific time, how much of the brands' posting happens there, and how those posts did against each account's usual post. Use the row for the moment your audience is awake: if most of your viewers are on the West Coast, 9 PM–midnight ET is 6–9 PM their time.
Brands mostly post at lunchtime and in the afternoon, Eastern time. The blocks that beat the account's normal are the evening and early-morning ones that fewer brands use. A likely reason is less competition in the feed, but this study cannot prove why; see the limits below.

Heatmap: day × time
Each cell combines one weekday with one 3-hour block. Many cells have only 20–60 posts, so read the pattern, not single cells: the 9 PM–midnight column and Sunday are mostly green, and Friday morning and lunchtime are red.
| Day (ET) | 6–9 AM | 9 AM–12 PM | 12–3 PM | 3–6 PM | 6–9 PM | 9 PM–12 AM |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Monday | – | 1.04× | 0.95× | 1.17× | 0.93× | – |

| Sunday | – | 1.78× | 1.04× | 1.19× | 2.08× | – |
Each cell: median engagement of posts published in that slot ÷ the same account's usual (median) post. 1.00× = a normal post. Green = at least 10% (darker: 25%) above normal, red = at least 10% (darker: 20%) below. “–” = fewer than 20 posts or 6 accounts, too few to read. 12–6 AM is left out: under 2% of posts.
Best day to post on TikTok
Thursday is when brands post most (20% of posts). Sunday is the day those posts did best and Friday the day they did worst. Monday to Thursday are all close to normal.
| Day (ET) | Share of brand posts | Posts / accounts | Median vs account's usual | 90% interval | Posts above account's usual |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Monday | 14% | 323 / 50 | 1.04× | 0.95–1.14× | 51% |

Best time to post on TikTok by niche
Within each niche we compare only the blocks with enough posts. Most niches post at lunchtime, and that block is rarely their best. Fashion and tech did best late in the evening and fitness in the early evening; beauty, food and home brands stayed within about 10% of normal all day.
| Niche | Accounts | When they post most (ET) | Best block (ET) | Weakest block (ET) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Beauty | 9 | 12–3 PM (53% of posts) | 9 AM–12 PM: 1.10× (37 posts) | 6–9 PM: 0.90× (32 posts) |
| Fashion | 9 | 3–6 PM (26% of posts) | 9 PM–12 AM: 1.20× (28 posts) | 6–9 PM: 0.90× (57 posts) |
| Fitness & sportswear | 9 | 12–3 PM (37% of posts) | 6–9 PM: 1.37× (34 posts) | 12–3 PM: 0.83× (157 posts) |
| Food & drink | 9 | 12–3 PM (40% of posts) | 9 AM–12 PM: 1.02× (99 posts) | 12–3 PM: 0.95× (166 posts) |
| Home & pets | 7 | 3–6 PM (37% of posts) | 9 AM–12 PM: 1.05× (54 posts) | 12–3 PM: 0.99× (120 posts) |
| Tech | 9 | 12–3 PM (32% of posts) | 9 PM–12 AM: 1.27× (49 posts) | 9 AM–12 PM: 0.91× (82 posts) |
Only blocks with at least 25 posts from 5+ accounts in the niche are compared, so a niche's best block can be a busy one. With 6–9 accounts per niche these are hints, not rules.
Method
Sample. 52 public US brand and creator accounts on TikTok, picked as 9 candidates in each of 6 niches (beauty, fashion, food & drink, fitness, tech, home & pets) before we looked at any posting times, so the list cannot favour an hour. They range from about 190,000 to 18 million followers. Accounts that were private, did not exist, were clearly a different company or had fewer than 20 usable posts were dropped.
Posts. The latest posts of each account (up to 50 on TikTok, 48 on Instagram), read on 2026-10-19. We removed pinned posts, posts under 2 days old (still collecting engagement) and posts older than 12 months, which leaves 2,369 posts published 2025-10-23 to 2026-10-17.
Metric. Engagement = likes + comments + shares + saves, as shown on the post when we read it. Views are kept separately and give the same pattern (late evening and early morning above normal, the 12–3 PM block at normal). We divide each post's engagement by the median of that account's posts in the sample, so 1.00× is a typical post for that account and 1.50× is 50% more. This lets a brand with 200,000 followers and one with 10 million count the same, and it compares each account with itself rather than big accounts with small ones.
Time. Publish times come in UTC and are converted to US Eastern time (America/New_York, with daylight saving). For each 3-hour block, hour and weekday we report the median score, the share of posts above their account's usual, and a 90% interval from 2,000 resamples of whole accounts, so one account that posts a lot at one hour cannot carry the result on its own.
Reporting rule. A block needs at least 30 posts from 8 accounts to be called a result; smaller ones are shown and marked as small samples. Differences under about 10% are treated as noise. The collection and analysis scripts, the list of accounts and the summary tables are kept with the study; the summary tables are free to download below.
How this compares with other studies
Other studies disagree with each other, mostly because they measure different things: some pool a scheduling tool's customers across countries and platforms, some use a survey, and most compare engagement across accounts of very different sizes. Two of the post-level studies agree with ours that evenings are strong and the early afternoon is weak; Sprout Social's cross-platform study points the other way.
| Study | What it recommends | Data behind it |
|---|---|---|
| Buffer (Sep 14, 2026) | Sunday 9 a.m., then Monday 1 p.m.; Saturday best day; 12–5 p.m. lowest | 7.1 million TikTok posts; times meant to apply in any time zone |
| Dash Social (updated Jan 7, 2026) | Sunday best; late night strongest; weekday 2–6 p.m. dip | 289,079 posts from 1,000+ brands, 2024, local time |
| Metricool (Jun 11, 2026) | 6–8 p.m.; Sunday 8 p.m. peak; Saturday quietest | 2,314,756 posts from 92,000+ accounts |
| Sprout Social (Mar 31, 2026) | Tuesday–Thursday 2–6 p.m.; weekends worst | About 2 billion engagements, 307,000 profiles, all networks combined, local time |
| Hootsuite (Nov 19, 2025) | Thursday 6–9 a.m. and Saturday 10 a.m.–6 p.m. | Over 1 million social posts, localised by country |
| SocialPilot (data to Dec 2025) | 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.; Tuesday–Thursday best; Sunday worst | 700,000 posts from 50,000+ accounts, 2025 |
| This study (Nolyn, Oct 2026) | 9 PM–midnight ET; Sunday best; Friday weakest; 12–3 PM slightly below normal | 2,369 posts from 52 US brand accounts, each post vs its own account's median, Eastern time |
Read on each study's own page on 2026-10-22. Most studies give times in the viewer's or poster's local time and pool many countries; ours is US accounts in Eastern time, each post compared with its own account.
How to use this
Start with your own data: open TikTok Analytics (Creator tools → Analytics → Followers) and check when your followers are active. If your followers are mostly in one time zone, convert our Eastern times to it.
Then test one change at a time. If you post at lunchtime like most brands, move some posts to 9 PM–midnight ET (or early morning) for four weeks and compare each post with your own median, not with your best video. Keep the content type the same, so you are testing the hour and not the idea.
Do not skip Friday or post only on Sunday because of a 10–15% difference. Consistency and the video itself matter more; use the timing as a tiebreaker for the posts you can schedule.
Limits
This shows correlation, not causation. Brands choose when to post, and a slot can look good because better content (launches, collaborations, trend responses) is scheduled there. The late-evening and early-morning blocks have fewer posts and wider intervals than the daytime ones.
The sample is 52 established brand and creator accounts with teams, not small sellers or new creators, whose followers may behave differently. Results are for US accounts in Eastern time; we did not check where each account's viewers live.
Engagement was read once, so older posts had longer to collect it. That affects every hour the same way, but it adds noise. TikTok can also keep pushing a video for weeks, so the first hours matter less than on Instagram.

Each row is one slot (3-hour block, hour, weekday, weekday × block or niche × block) for one market and platform, with the number of posts and accounts, the share of all posts, the median score against each account's usual post, its 90% interval and the share of posts above the account's usual. The full file also has the Instagram and Brazil results from the same study. Times are local: Eastern for the US, Brasília for Brazil.

Questions
Does posting time matter on TikTok?
A little. In our sample the best and worst common blocks differ by about 30% (1.27× vs 0.95× of an account's usual engagement), while a single strong video can do several times its account's median. Timing is worth testing once you post regularly; it will not save a weak video.
What is the best time to post on TikTok in Pacific or Central time?
The same moments shifted: 9 PM–midnight Eastern is 8–11 PM Central, 7–10 PM Mountain and 6–9 PM Pacific. If your audience is mostly on the West Coast, test 9 PM–midnight in your own local time as well.
What is the best day to post on TikTok?
Sunday, with a median 1.16× the account's usual engagement across 146 posts from 41 US accounts. Friday was the weakest day (0.91×). Monday to Thursday were close to normal.
Is it bad to post on TikTok at lunchtime?
No, just not better than average. The 12–3 PM ET block, where 37% of brand posts are published, scored 0.95×, inside the noise band. It is the most crowded slot, so if you can schedule, try the evening.
Does this apply to small creators?
We measured 52 established US brand and creator accounts, from about 190,000 to 18 million followers. Small accounts may see different patterns. Use this as a starting point and check your own TikTok Analytics.
