Engagement rate calculator for TikTok, Instagram and YouTube
Enter the views or followers, likes, comments and shares of a post or an account. The engagement rate by views and by followers updates as you type, with the exact formula behind each number. Everything runs in your browser; nothing is sent or saved.
TikTok shows views, likes, comments, shares and saves under every public video. Saves are optional: leave them out to compare with tools that count likes, comments and shares only.
For one post, leave posts at 1. For an account, add up the numbers of its last N posts and enter N. Numbers like 12,300, 830.7K or 1.2M work.
Example: @owala’s Pokémon launch video, from Nolyn’s TikTok account analyzer run on October 15, 2026.
11.86%
(likes + comments + shares) ÷ views × 100 = 64,220 ÷ 541,600 × 100 = 11.86%
7.73%
(likes + comments + shares) ÷ followers × 100 = 64,220 ÷ 830,700 × 100 = 7.73%
Fee = views per post ÷ 1,000 × CPM. Enter the CPM (price per 1,000 views) you are willing to pay; Nolyn does not suggest one, because rates vary too much by niche, market and usage rights.
Enter a CPM to see the fee for this post’s views.
The TikTok account analyzer reads the numbers for you, calculates the median engagement rate across 30 recent videos and shows which ones carry the account. Requires sign-in; new accounts get 100 free credits.
How the engagement rate is calculated
There is no single official formula. This calculator uses two common ones and shows both, so you can match whatever another tool or a brief asks for.
TikTok
By views: (likes + comments + shares + saves) ÷ views × 100
By followers: (likes + comments + shares + saves) ÷ followers × 100
Nolyn’s TikTok account analyzer leaves saves out and takes the median per-video rate across recent videos. Leave saves empty to match it.
By views: (likes + comments + shares + saves) ÷ views × 100
By followers: (likes + comments + shares + saves) ÷ followers × 100
Most public Instagram calculators use (likes + comments) ÷ followers, because shares and saves are private. Leave them empty to get that number.
YouTube
By views: (likes + comments) ÷ views × 100
By followers: (likes + comments) ÷ subscribers × 100
Views are the usual base on YouTube, because a video’s audience depends far more on search and recommendations than on subscribers.
By views tells you how strongly the people who saw a post reacted; it is the fairer way to compare accounts of different sizes. By followers tells you how much of the audience you could count on reacts; it falls as an account grows, so a small account almost always looks better on it. For an account, use several recent posts: one viral post can move the number a lot.
Reference numbers from Nolyn’s sample runs
These are not industry averages. They are the only engagement numbers Nolyn has measured and published itself: a few brand accounts, read on one day in October 2026. Use them as a sense of scale, not as a benchmark for every niche.
| Sample | Run date | Engagement rate by views | By followers or subscribers |
|---|---|---|---|
| TikTok · 12 Japanese brand accounts (McDonald’s Japan, GU, Don Quijote and others), about 20 recent videos each, 239 videos | Oct 16, 2026 | Median per account 0.60% to 9.06%; the middle account 2.24%. (likes + comments + shares) ÷ views | Median likes ÷ followers 0.052% to 12.5%; the highest belongs to an account with 40 followers |
| TikTok · @owala, US water-bottle brand, 830.7K followers, 30 recent videos | Oct 15, 2026 | Median 3.72%; single videos 1.74% to 11.86%. (likes + comments + shares) ÷ views | Median likes ÷ followers 0.13% |
| YouTube · @owala, 29.6K subscribers | Oct 15, 2026 | Likes ÷ views of the 5 videos shown on the analyzer page: 0.0007% to 2.06%; its three Shorts 1.04% to 2.06%. The lowest is a product spot with millions of views, most likely ad views | ≈166 median Short views per 1,000 subscribers |
| YouTube · Sanrio’s Japanese channel, 946K subscribers | Oct 16, 2026 | Likes ÷ views of the 10 videos shown on the analyzer page: 0.26% to 5.66% | About 58 median video views per 1,000 subscribers |
Every figure is recomputed from the saved responses of each run. The TikTok rows leave saves out; the YouTube rows count likes only, because that is what the analyzer pages show. Larger accounts in the Japanese sample tended to have lower likes ÷ followers, which is why the by-views rate is the better comparison.
Nolyn has not published an Instagram sample run yet, so there are no Instagram reference numbers here.
Skip the copying: analyze a real account
The calculator works on numbers you type in. Nolyn’s analyzers read a public account for you, calculate the median engagement rate across its recent posts, show the range from best to weakest, and explain what the best posts have in common. Running one requires sign-in; new accounts get 100 free credits.
Engagement rate questions
How do you calculate engagement rate?
Add up the interactions on a post (likes, comments, and where the platform shows them, shares and saves), divide by views or by followers, and multiply by 100. By views measures how the people who saw the post reacted; by followers measures reactions relative to the audience size. This calculator shows both, with the numbers you entered in the formula.
Is this engagement rate calculator free?
Yes. It runs entirely in your browser, needs no account and has no limit; nothing you type is sent to Nolyn. The account analyzers that read the numbers for you require sign-in and use credits.
How do I calculate Instagram engagement rate?
For a post: (likes + comments) ÷ followers × 100, the formula most public Instagram calculators use. If you own the account, add shares and saves from Insights and divide by reach or views for a fuller picture. For an account, add up its last 10 or 12 posts, enter the totals and the number of posts, and the calculator averages per post.
How do I calculate TikTok engagement rate?
Per video: (likes + comments + shares) ÷ views × 100. TikTok shows views on every video, so views are the usual base; some tools also add saves. For an account, take the median of its recent videos, which one viral post distorts less than an average. Nolyn’s TikTok account analyzer does this for the last 30 videos.
What is a good TikTok engagement rate?
It depends on the niche, the account size and the formula, so there is no single good number. In Nolyn’s own samples (October 2026), 12 Japanese brand accounts had median rates by views from 0.60% to 9.06%, with the middle account at 2.24%; the US brand @owala had a median of 3.72%. These are a few brand accounts, not an industry average.
How do I calculate YouTube engagement rate?
(likes + comments) ÷ views × 100 per video. YouTube does not show shares or dislikes publicly. Compare long videos with long videos and Shorts with Shorts: Shorts usually get more views and a different like rate. Product spots with millions of views and few likes are often ads, which pushes the rate toward zero.
Should I use views or followers?
Use views to compare accounts of different sizes or to judge a single post. Use followers when you want to know how much of an audience reliably reacts. By followers falls as accounts grow, so a 5,000-follower account will often look several times better than a 500,000-follower one on that formula alone.
How do I calculate an influencer rate?
A transparent way is per view: fee = expected views per post ÷ 1,000 × CPM, where CPM is the price per 1,000 views you are willing to pay. Base expected views on the creator’s recent median, not their best post. Enter your own CPM in the calculator; it does not suggest market rates.
Why does another calculator give a different number?
Calculators choose different interactions (with or without shares and saves), different bases (views, followers or reach), and different averages (one post, a mean or a median of recent posts). Use the same formula for every account you compare.
