Fakespot alternatives in 2026: Amazon review checkers that still work
· Nolyn research team
Fakespot's grades were the default way to sanity-check Amazon reviews until Mozilla closed it. We checked every tool that competing lists still recommend on its own site and store listing on 2026-10-20: three are gone, one is no longer a review checker, and the rest are small, free, Amazon-only tools. Here is what each one does, what it costs and who it suits. None of them can prove a review is fake; they all read patterns.
What is the best Fakespot alternative in 2026?
Mozilla shut Fakespot down on July 1, 2025, and ReviewMeta and The Review Index are offline too. On 2026-10-20 the free tools still working were Null Fake (A–F grade, Chrome and Firefox), SureVett (A–F grade from five listed signals, 17 Amazon stores) and RateBud (0–100 trust score). If you want to see the numbers behind a warning rather than a grade, Nolyn's Amazon Review Checker shows the star distribution and what the top reviews have in common.
How we chose
- It works today: we loaded the site or extension listing on 2026-10-20 and left out tools that are offline (ReviewMeta, The Review Index, Trustwerty) or no longer check reviews (Revain).
- It checks Amazon reviews for the patterns Fakespot looked for, or gives the data to check them yourself.
- Price, supported stores and browsers are taken from the tool's own site or its Chrome Web Store / Firefox listing, with the date. User counts and ratings are the store's numbers on that day.
- We say how each tool reaches its verdict when the tool says so, and that we could not see inside the ones that do not.
- Nolyn is one of the options. We place it where it fits, not first, and list its limits.

The Fakespot alternatives, one by one
1. Null Fake
Null Fake is the closest thing to Fakespot's old grade: paste an Amazon link on the site or use the extension, wait 30–90 seconds, and you get an A–F grade, an estimated share of fake or AI-written reviews and a short explanation. The site says there are no daily limits, no account and no premium tier. The Chrome extension had about 1,000 users and a 3.9 rating from 25 ratings on 2026-10-20 and was updated on 2026-10-10, so it is maintained. Note that the Chrome listing mentions an API key from nullfake.com while the site says no account is needed.
Pros
- Free with no stated limits
- Updated this month (extension v2.9.84, 2026-10-10)
- Chrome, Firefox and a web form
Cons
- Amazon only
- 30–90 seconds per check
- The method is not published, so a grade cannot be checked
2. SureVett
SureVett grades a product A–F from five signals it names: the shape of the rating distribution (including a test for suspiciously uniform five-star patterns), how fast reviews arrive, the number of reviews, the seller type and brand signals. The analysis runs on your device, and it says when there is not enough data instead of guessing. It covers 17 Amazon marketplaces, including amazon.com.br and amazon.com.mx. The Chrome extension had 903 users and a 4.2 rating from 6 ratings on 2026-10-20; there is also an Android app.
Pros
- Names the signals behind the grade
- Widest store list we found, including Brazil
- No ads or affiliate links
Cons
- Grades the review pattern, not individual reviews
- No Firefox version listed
- New and small: under 1,000 Chrome users
3. Nolyn Amazon Review Checker
Our checker does not give a grade. It reads the product's star distribution across all ratings and the top reviews Amazon shows on the product page (about 8–13), and reports each signal with its number: how thin the 2–4 star middle is, how many top reviews are verified purchases, whether review dates cluster, whether reviews repeat phrases, how many are about another variant, and how the top reviews compare with the overall rating. Each signal is marked normal, worth a look or strong. On our 2026-10-18 sample run for a pair of wireless earbuds (ASIN B09DT48V16, 4.4 stars from 89,505 ratings), 23% of ratings were 2–4 stars, all 8 top reviews were verified, the top-review average was 4.63 against 4.4 overall, and 3 of the 8 were for other colours. It is a set of signals, not proof that reviews are fake.
Pros
- Every warning comes with the number behind it
- Reads Amazon US, UK, Canada, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Japan, Mexico and Brazil
- Also useful to sellers checking a competitor's reviews
Cons
- Reads the top reviews on the page, not every review
- Uses credits after the free 100; no browser extension
- Takes 1–2 minutes and needs an account
4. RateBud
RateBud gives a 0–100 trust score and an A–F grade for Amazon products, and the site says it supports more than 20 Amazon domains without listing them. It is one of the few current checkers with a Firefox add-on as well as a Chrome extension, which matters to people who used Fakespot's Review Checker inside Firefox. The Chrome extension had about 1,000 users and a 3.0 rating from 5 ratings on 2026-10-20, last updated 2026-01-22. Accuracy figures quoted for it elsewhere do not appear on its own site.
Pros
- Free, no account
- Chrome and Firefox
Cons
- Countries are not listed
- Last Chrome update in January 2026
- How the score is built is not published
5. FakeFind
FakeFind gives a trust score from 1 to 10, an adjusted rating recalculated after setting aside suspicious reviews, and a summary of what reviewers say. The adjusted rating is the feature many Fakespot users miss. The site says it is free with no caps and that it may earn from Amazon affiliate links. The Chrome extension had 961 users and a 1.3 rating from only 3 ratings on 2026-10-20, last updated 2026-02-27.
Pros
- Adjusted rating, like Fakespot's
- Free
Cons
- Affiliate links on a tool that judges products
- Very few store ratings, and low ones
- Countries are not stated; Chrome only
6. Amazon's own review labels
Amazon marks reviews from people it confirmed bought the item at a normal price as Verified Purchase, labels reviews of free products from its invitation-only Vine programme, and calculates the star rating with machine-learned models that weigh recent and verified reviews more, not a simple average. The "Customers say" summary is generated from verified-purchase reviews. Filtering reviews to verified purchases and reading the 3-star reviews already does a lot of what Fakespot did.
Pros
- Built into every product page
- Verified Purchase and Vine labels are reliable facts, not guesses
Cons
- Amazon grades its own marketplace; no independent score
- You do the pattern-spotting yourself
7. VOC.ai (Shulex)
VOC.ai describes itself as review analytics for e-commerce sellers: it summarises sentiment, pros and cons across a product's reviews. It does not advertise fake-review detection. Its Chrome extension is the largest in this list, with 60,000 users and a 4.4 rating from 104 ratings on 2026-10-20. Include it only if you are a seller researching product improvements.
Pros
- Deep analysis of review content
- Large, active extension
Cons
- Paid after 3 analyses
- Not built to flag fake reviews
What happened to Fakespot, ReviewMeta and The Review Index
Mozilla bought Fakespot in 2023 and built it into Firefox as Review Checker. On May 22, 2025 Mozilla announced that Review Checker would stop on June 10, 2025 and Fakespot on July 1, 2025, saying the idea resonated but did not fit a model it could sustain. fakespot.com now redirects to that announcement.
ReviewMeta has no official shutdown notice, but the site has not loaded since about November 2025: Wayback Machine captures show errors from 2025-11-12 onward, and on 2026-10-20 it returned an error page. The Review Index put up a banner saying it is permanently down because of Amazon's policy changes (Wayback capture of 2026-08-27). Trustwerty's domain no longer resolves.
So most "Fakespot alternatives" lists written in 2023–2024 now point to dead tools. The ones above were working on the day we checked.
How to check Amazon reviews yourself in five minutes
Every tool above reads some version of the same patterns. You can check the main ones by hand on the product page:
- Star split: a product with mostly 5-star and 1-star ratings and almost nothing in between is worth a closer look; genuine products usually have a visible 3–4 star middle.
- Verified Purchase: filter reviews to verified purchases and see whether the average holds.
- Dates: many 5-star reviews within a few days, or most reviews from one short period, can mean a review campaign.
- Wording: several reviews that share the same unusual phrases, or read like the product description.
- Variants: reviews that talk about a different product, colour or an earlier version merged into the listing.
- 3-star reviews: they are the least likely to be bought, and the most specific about real problems.
How to choose

Questions
Is Fakespot still working?
No. Mozilla shut Fakespot down on July 1, 2025, and the Review Checker built into Firefox stopped on June 10, 2025. fakespot.com now redirects to Mozilla's announcement (checked 2026-10-20).
Why did Fakespot shut down?
Mozilla said in its May 22, 2025 announcement that the idea resonated with people but did not fit a model it could sustain, and that it was moving resources to Firefox.
Is ReviewMeta still working?
No. ReviewMeta has returned errors since about November 2025 according to Wayback Machine captures, and AlternativeTo lists it as discontinued. There was no official shutdown notice.
Is there a free Fakespot alternative?
Yes. Null Fake, SureVett, RateBud and FakeFind were all free on 2026-10-20, and Nolyn gives new accounts 100 free credits, enough for about 8 review checks at 12 credits each.
Can any tool prove that Amazon reviews are fake?
No. Every checker, including ours, reads patterns such as the star split, review dates and repeated wording. Those patterns make fake reviews more likely, but only Amazon can see purchase records and accounts. Use a grade or a signal as a reason to read more carefully, not as a verdict.
Does Amazon remove fake reviews itself?
Amazon says it calculates star ratings with machine-learned models that give more weight to recent and verified-purchase reviews, labels Vine reviews of free products, and builds its "Customers say" summary from verified purchases. Fake reviews still get through, which is why the patterns above are worth checking.
