Poshmark vs Mercari: what you keep from the same sale (2026)

Poshmark and Mercari are the two big US apps for selling secondhand clothes and household items from your phone, and their fees work in opposite ways. Poshmark takes a bigger cut, 20% from $15, but the buyer pays a flat $6.49 for the shipping label, so postage never comes out of your pocket. Mercari takes 10% of the item price and buyer-paid shipping, with no processing fee, but you choose and pay for the label yourself. To compare them honestly we priced the same sale on both, at the same item prices, and counted what you keep after fees and postage. Fees are from each platform's own US pages, read on October 30, 2026; the Mercari label is $5, as in our Mercari fee calculator. Both use the same rules as our Poshmark and Mercari fee calculators.
Is Poshmark or Mercari better for sellers?
Mercari takes less. On a $25 item, US fees checked October 30, 2026: Poshmark takes $5.00 (20%) and you keep $20.00; Mercari takes $3.00 (10% of the item and $5 buyer-paid shipping) and you keep $22.00 after a $5 label. But if you offer free shipping on Mercari, Poshmark leaves you more on every sale under $50, because its buyers pay the $6.49 label.

Poshmark
Poshmark has one seller fee, taken from the final order price: a flat $2.95 under $15 and 20% at $15 or more. Listing is free and there is no separate processing fee. The buyer pays a flat $6.49 for a prepaid USPS Ground Advantage label for bundles up to 5 lb, so you print the label and ship without paying postage. On a $25 sale you keep $20.00. The $2.95 flat fee makes cheap sales expensive, 29.5% of a $10 item, and the line at $15 is a trap: a $15.00 sale leaves you $12.00, $0.04 less than a $14.99 one. Sellers in Texas also pay the Texas Seller Fee Tax from October 1, 2025.

Mercari
Mercari brought back a seller fee on January 6, 2025: a flat 10% of the completed item price plus any shipping the buyer pays, with no payment processing fee. Buyers pay a separate 3.6% Buyer Protection fee on top, which does not come out of your payout. You choose the shipping option and either charge the buyer for it or offer free shipping and pay the label yourself. On a $25 item with $5 buyer-paid shipping the fee is $3.00, and you keep $22.00 after a $5 label; with free shipping the fee drops to $2.50 but you keep $17.50. Payouts by ACH direct deposit are free; Instant Pay to a debit card costs $3 each time.

What you keep at seven price points
"You keep" is the sale price minus the fee and the postage you pay, before what the item cost you. On Poshmark the buyer pays the $6.49 label, so you pay no postage. On Mercari the label is $5 here: either the buyer pays $5 shipping, which Mercari also charges 10% on, or you offer free shipping and pay it yourself.
With buyer-paid shipping Mercari leaves you more at every price, from $1.95 more on a $5 sale to $9.50 more on a $100 one. With free shipping it is the other way round below $50: 0.9 × price − $5 is less than Poshmark's 0.8 × price until the two meet at $50, where both leave $40.00. What the buyer pays on each
Fees on the buyer side change which listing looks cheaper. On Mercari a buyer of the $25 item with $5 shipping pays $30.00 plus the 3.6% Buyer Protection fee, $31.08 before tax. On Poshmark the same buyer pays $25.00 plus the $6.49 label, $31.49. So Mercari is slightly cheaper for the buyer too, until the item is heavy: Poshmark's $6.49 covers up to 5 lb, where a Mercari label for a heavy bundle can cost more than $5.
Where Nolyn fits, and where it does not
Nolyn, our product, has no Poshmark or Mercari data: it cannot show you sold listings, what a brand resells for or how fast items sell on either app. What it does is read live Amazon US and TikTok Shop US listings: what the same or similar products sell for new, which listings show the most sales and what buyers complain about. Is it cheaper to ship on Poshmark or Mercari?
For you as the seller, Poshmark: the buyer pays $6.49 for a prepaid label up to 5 lb, so you pay no postage unless you offer a discount. On Mercari you pay for the label from the shipping the buyer paid, or from your sale if you offer free shipping.
Should I list on both Poshmark and Mercari?
Many resellers do, since listing is free on both. Remove the listing from the other app as soon as an item sells, and price with each fee in mind: the same $25 item leaves $20.00 on Poshmark and $22.00 on Mercari when the buyer pays $5 shipping.
Why does a $15 sale on Poshmark pay less than $14.99?
Below $15 Poshmark takes a flat $2.95; from $15 it takes 20%. So $14.99 leaves $12.04 and $15.00 leaves $12.00. Mercari has no such line: 10% at every price.
