Amazon niche finder

Amazon niche finder: compare categories by review bar and brand share

Price
Free plan: 100 credits, no card. One analysis uses about 60–70 credits.
What you get
One table with a row per niche: median price of the top 50, median and lowest ratings count of the top 10, how many of the top 10 have fewer than 1,000 ratings, their average star rating, the brand holding the most top-10 places and the range of Amazon's “bought in past month” labels; then the niches ranked from most to least open, with the listings behind each point.
Coverage
Amazon Best Sellers lists (top 50 per category) and category listings sorted by best sellers, for links you paste. Tested on amazon.com and amazon.com.br. Demand is only Amazon's rank and labels: no unit, revenue or search-volume estimates.
Time to report
Usually 2–4 minutes.
Account
Sign-in with Google required to run it. You can read the example and fill in the form without an account.

Paste the Amazon Best Sellers links of 2–6 categories you are considering. Nolyn reads each top-50 list and the category's best-selling listings, then puts the niches side by side: price, how many ratings the top 10 carry, whether one brand holds several places, how well they are rated and Amazon's “bought in past month” labels. You see which niche has demand and a bar a new listing can clear.

Example: five kitchen niches on Amazon.com
Compare niches

Open a category on amazon.com/bestsellers, go down to the subcategory you are considering and copy its link. Add 2–6 links. A category name without a link also works; Nolyn then uses a best-seller search instead of the list.

How do you find a niche on Amazon?

Compare several Best Sellers categories on the same rules: how many ratings the top 10 carry, whether one brand holds several places and how well they are rated. In Nolyn's October 23, 2026 run on five amazon.com kitchen categories, Spoon Rests had the lowest bar (median 2,398 ratings in the top 10) and Can Openers the highest (26,521), while Jar Openers had the weakest ratings (4.38 stars on average).

What you get

One table, one row per niche

Median price, the ratings count the top 10 carry, how many of them sit under 1,000 ratings, average stars, the most-placed brand and the “bought in past month” range, all from the same moment.

Niches ranked from most to least open

Which niche has listings with few ratings in its top 10, where no brand dominates and where ratings leave room for a better product, each point tied to the listing that shows it.

The listings worth a closer look

Young listings already in a top 10, low-rated leaders with many ratings, and the price each sells at, so you know which products to open next in a competitor or review analysis.

Example: five kitchen niches on Amazon.com

A real run on October 23, 2026: five subcategories of Kitchen Utensils & Gadgets on amazon.com. Nolyn read each Best Sellers list (top 50) and the first 24 listings of each category sorted by best sellers for Amazon's “bought in past month” labels. The niches are ordered by the median ratings count of their top 10, lowest first.

Can Openers$17.9926,5211 of 104.44★2 (Amazon Basics)1K+ to 20K+

Top 10 = ranks 1–10 of each Best Sellers list at 07:49 UTC. Median price uses every listed price in the top 50 (49 of 50 in Oil Sprayers and Can Openers, where one listing showed no price). Medians of ten ratings counts are the average of the 5th and 6th, rounded up to a whole rating. Brands are read from the start of each listing title; titles without a clear brand are not counted as a brand. “Bought in past month” is the range of Amazon's labels across the top 10.

Spoon Rests has the lowest bar and the smallest demand

The top 10 have a median of 2,398 ratings and three of them have fewer than 1,000: a coffee-bar spoon set at #6 with 127 ratings ($6.99), QNMUSUNC at #7 with 547 ($5.99) and Mfacoy at #10 with 923 ($6.99). 31 of the top 50 are under 1,000 ratings. But the highest label in the top 10 is “3K+ bought in past month” (Zulay, #2), the #1 shows 1K+, and the average rating is 4.73 stars, so a new spoon rest wins on design or price, not by fixing a flaw.

Jar Openers leaves the most room for a better product

Its top 10 average 4.38 stars, the lowest of the five, and three of them rate below 4.3: #2 (4.2 stars, 7,886 ratings, “5K+ bought”), #4, a “Master Jar & Bottle Opener” at 3.9 stars on 7,072 ratings that still shows 4K+, and #6 NiHome (4.2). No brand holds two places and three of the ten titles name no brand. The category listing counts 1,064 products, against 2,080 to 6,109 in the other four.

Oil sprayers: two brands hold four places, yet a $3 newcomer is #8

YARRAMATE is #1 and #6, TrendPlain #2 and #10; the two leaders carry 50,602 and 48,955 ratings and each shows “20K+ bought in past month” at $7.99. Below them, an unbranded 2-in-1 sprayer at #3 has 1,981 ratings and 10K+ at $4.99, and a $3.00 glass sprayer with 16 ratings is #8 with 1K+. The niche sells, but the entry point is a price war around a $9.99 median.

In Thermometers & Timers, ratings are not the barrier

The #1 is an unbranded meat thermometer with 2,170 ratings at $9.97 showing “50K+ bought in past month”, the same label as Alpha Grillers at #2 with 92,954 ratings. Demand is the highest of the five (6K+ to 50K+ across the top 10), but none of the top 10 has fewer than 1,000 ratings and the list mixes meat thermometers, kitchen timers and fridge thermometers, so read it as several niches.

Can Openers is a wall of reviews

The top 10 have a median of 26,521 ratings: KitchenAid #1 with 86,832, Hamilton Beach #4 with 83,344 and Kitchen Mama #6 with 120,629. The only listing under 1,000 ratings is Amazon's own Amazon Basics manual opener at #10 (482 ratings, $7.98). Four of the ten rate 4.0–4.2 stars, so complaints exist, but a new listing would start far behind.

Every figure on this page was recomputed from the Best Sellers and category responses saved from this run (67 credits: 40 for the ten data lists, 27 for the AI). Best Sellers Rank is relative: it compares products within one category at one moment, so a #1 in Spoon Rests and a #1 in Thermometers & Timers can sell very different amounts. The “bought in past month” labels are Amazon's own rounded figures; Nolyn does not turn rank or labels into units or revenue, and it has no search volume.

Run it for your own product or account

How it works

  1. Paste the categories

Copy the Best Sellers links of the subcategories you are weighing, one per line. Nolyn reads the category path and node from each link.

  2. Read each top 50

Rank, price, star rating and ratings count of every product on page 1 of each Best Sellers list.

  3. Add Amazon's purchase labels

The category's listings sorted by best sellers, for the “bought in past month” label Amazon shows on each.

  4. Compare and rank

The same figures per niche in one table, the niches ranked from most to least open, and the listings that prove each point.

Who uses an Amazon niche finder

Sellers choosing their next launch

Before you source anything, see which of the subcategories you could make has demand and a top 10 that still includes young or poorly rated listings.

Brands extending a product line

Compare the adjacent categories your brand could enter on the same rules, and see where an established brand already holds several top-10 places.

Retail buyers and agencies

Shortlist categories for a client or an assortment review with a table built from live Best Sellers lists, every figure dated and linked to its list.

What it cannot do

Demand is only what Amazon shows: Best Sellers Rank, which is relative to one category at one moment, and the rounded “bought in past month” label, which category listings show for part of each top 50. Nolyn does not estimate units, revenue or market share, and it has no keyword search volume. Brands are read from listing titles, so a listing that leaves its brand out of the title counts as unbranded. It cannot list a category's subcategories for you: paste the Best Sellers link of each niche. It does not check fees, suppliers, patents or category restrictions.

Questions

How do I find a niche on Amazon?

Pick a few subcategories you could source for and compare them on the same rules: what the top sellers cost, how many ratings the top 10 carry, whether one brand holds several places, how well they are rated and whether Amazon shows purchase labels. A niche worth testing has demand and a top 10 that includes listings a new product could catch. Nolyn does this from the live Best Sellers lists of the links you paste.

Does it estimate sales or search volume?

No. It reports Best Sellers Rank and Amazon's “bought in past month” labels exactly as shown. Tools that print monthly units or revenue model them from rank; Nolyn leaves that out rather than guess, and it has no keyword search volume.

What does Best Sellers Rank tell me?

Only order within one category at one moment. Amazon updates it often, and a #1 in a small category can sell less than a #40 in a large one. That is why the table adds ratings counts and the purchase labels Amazon shows, and why the page states the time each list was read.

How is brand concentration counted?

For each niche, the brand named at the start of each top-10 listing title is tallied, and the brand with the most places is shown with its count. Titles without a clear brand are not lumped together as one brand. In the sample, YARRAMATE and TrendPlain each held two of the top 10 Oil Sprayers places.

Where do I get the Best Sellers links?

Open amazon.com/bestsellers (or the Best Sellers page of your marketplace), click down the department list to the subcategory you are considering and copy the address. Each link ends in a category number, for example /home-garden/289755 for Can Openers.

How is this different from Amazon competitor analysis or product validation?

The niche finder compares whole categories to decide where to look. Product validation tests one product idea with a go or no-go verdict, and competitor analysis compares the top five listings for one keyword or ASIN in detail. A typical order: niche finder, then product validation for an idea inside the best niche, then competitor and review analysis before you order stock.

How is this different from Jungle Scout or Helium 10?

Those are subscription suites with sales estimates, keyword databases and browser extensions. Nolyn reads the live Best Sellers lists for the categories you name and shows the evidence behind each comparison. It has no sales estimates or search volume.

Which marketplaces are supported?

Paste Best Sellers links from the Amazon marketplace you sell on; the runs behind this page used amazon.com and amazon.com.br. Reports are written in English.

Is there a free Amazon niche finder?

You can start free: new accounts get 100 one-time credits, no card required. One analysis like this uses about 60–70 credits, so the free credits cover about 1 runs. Paid plans add monthly credits.

Do I need to sign up?

To run it, yes: sign in with Google. It is free and asks for no card. You can read the example and fill in the form before signing in.
