How do you analyze a TikTok video?

Compare the video with the account's own recent videos: views against the account's median, engagement rate, and shares and saves per 1,000 views; then read what the comments say. In Nolyn's October 18, 2026 sample, Owala's Pokémon launch video reached 546,330 views, 16 times the account's median, with an 11.83% engagement rate and 40.7 shares per 1,000 views.

The five most-viewed of @owala's 30 latest videos, and the median of all 30. Engagement rate = (likes + comments + shares) ÷ views.

Shares set it apart, not likes

The video was shared 22,249 times: 40.7 shares per 1,000 views, 14 times the account's median of 2.86. It was saved 8.2 times per 1,000 views, 5 times the median of 1.64. Its 11.83% engagement rate compares with a median of 3.36% across the 30 videos.

A teaser and a launch carried the period

The launch reached 546,330 views, 16.1 times the account's median of 33,950. With the teaser posted four days earlier (221,100 views, 10.81%), the two videos took 34% of all views across the 30 videos.

Most comments were about not being able to buy

37 of the 96 comments read (39%) were about sold-out stock, scalpers or restocks, with 62% of the likes. The most-liked, with 1,429 likes, asks Owala to “drop on your website” because scalpers took the stock. 24 ask about availability outside the US.

What a brand can reuse

Tease a drop a few days ahead, name the retailer and characters in the caption, and keep it short. Plan stock and an answer to restock questions too: 16 comments mention buying for a child and 4 cite resale prices of $60–80.

Every figure was recomputed from the saved TikTok responses of this run. Comment themes were counted with fixed keyword rules over the 96 comments read; quotes are shown without usernames.

How the TikTok video analyzer works

  1. Read the video

Publish date, length, caption, hashtags, sound, views, likes, comments, shares and saves from the video's detail page.

  2. Read the account

The author's profile and 30 most recent videos, to work out the account's median views and engagement rate.

  3. Compare and read comments

The video's engagement rate, shares and saves per 1,000 views and its multiple of the median, then up to 100 top comments grouped by theme.

  4. Explain what worked

What set the video apart, what viewers asked for, and three things a brand or creator could reuse.

Who uses the TikTok video analyzer

Brands reviewing a launch

See whether a launch video beat the account's normal post, what drove it, and what buyers asked in the comments.

Agencies checking a creator's video

Compare a creator's paid post with their own median and see whether viewers talked about the product.

Creators studying a breakout

Find out whether a video took off through shares or saves, how far above your median it went, and which comment themes to answer in a follow-up.

Limits

Only public videos and public numbers. Nolyn cannot see TikTok Studio analytics such as watch time, retention, traffic sources or demographics, nor whether views were paid. The comments read are the top 100 or so TikTok returns first, not all comments, and replies inside threads are not read. Numbers change while a video still gets views; each sample shows its date.

Questions

How do I analyze a TikTok video?

Compare it with the same account's recent videos: views against the account's median, engagement rate, and shares and saves per 1,000 views. Then read the top comments to see why people reacted.

How is the engagement rate of a TikTok video calculated?

(likes + comments + shares) ÷ views. Nolyn also reports shares and saves per 1,000 views, because two videos with the same engagement rate can spread very differently. To work out a rate yourself without signing in, use the free engagement rate calculator.

Can I see how many views a TikTok video has?

Yes, views are public and the analyzer reads them with likes, comments, shares and saves. Watch time and traffic sources are only in the creator's TikTok Studio.

Can I analyze someone else's TikTok video?

Yes, any public video, including a competitor's or a creator's. Private and deleted videos cannot be read.

How many comments does it read?

Up to 100 top comments, the ones TikTok returns first. In the Owala example, 96 of 721 comments were read and grouped by theme with fixed keyword rules.

Is there a free TikTok video analytics checker online?

You can start free: new accounts get 100 one-time credits, no card required. One analysis like this uses about 27 credits, so the free credits cover about 3 runs. Paid plans add monthly credits.

Do I need to sign up?

To run it, yes: sign in with Google. It is free and asks for no card. You can read the example and fill in the form before signing in.
